Shopian encounter ends with the killing of 2 militants and a soldier, Body of non-local found near the gunfight site

Shopian, Aug 3, KNT: The 52 hour long encounter in South Kashmir’s Pandushan village of South Kashmir ended on Saturday with the killing of two militants and a soldier. The gunfight resulted in the massive damage of many residential structures.
The gunfight had raged in the village during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. In the initial gunfight a soldier from 34 RR was injured who later on succumbed at Srinagar based Army hospital.
During the late hours of Friday, a Jaish militant Zeenat-ul-Islam of Meemandar Shopian was killed while police on Saturday said that the gunfight ended with the killing of another militant whom they identified as Manzoor Ahmed Bhat of Wachi Shopian on Saturday afternoon.
“Two weapons including one AK 47 and one SLR rifle were also recovered by the forces from the slain duo militants,” said a police official to Kashmir News Trust.
Local sources said that body of a non-local probably a labourer was also found near the encounter site. An official said that they are investigating the matter under which circumstances this non-local was killed.
A couple of protesters were wounded after they clashed with Government Forces near the encounter site.
Reports said that a large number of people participated in the funeral processions of slain militants. (KNT)
