BANDIPORA: Three more militants have been killed in a gunfight in Northern Kashmir's Bandipora district.

The gun-battle in Sumlar area, located four-kms from Bandipora town is still underway from past three days.  At least four to six militants were trapped in a house located in dense forest area. Earlier reports had suggested that four militants managed to escape from the spot while two militants had been killed.

The anti-militancy operation is still in progress said a police official.

With the killing of three more militants the toll has touch five.

The operation was launched on Wednesday following “specific inputs” about presence of a group of militants in the area.

The slain militants are believed to be affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba, a police official said.

Pertinently, Bandipora has lately emerged as a strong bastion of LeT whose presence in the area surfaced after forces killed at least six militants including Zaki-ur-Rahman’s nephew Owaid alias Osama, and two top commanders Zargar and Mehmood, at Chandergeer village in Hajin.

In the first week of this month, three LeT militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with forces in Par Mohalla, Hajin. In March this year, a Lashkar militant was killed by forces in a gunfight in Hajin.

In all gunfights in the area since November 2017, the slain militants were seen to be affiliated with the LeT. These gunfights mainly took place in Hajin and its adjoining areas.
