Curfew imposed in Bhaderwah after man allegedly shot dead by cow vigilantes

Bhadarwah: Curfew was Thursday imposed in Bhaderwah town of Doda district following violent protests triggered after the killing of a person allegedly by cow vigilantes.

Reports said that the man namely Nayeem Shah, a resident of Mohalla Qilla Bhaderwah was allegedly fired upon by ‘cow vigilantes’ around 2 am, leading to his on the spot death.

“In the incident, two of his associates managed to escape with minor injuries,” they said.

Soon after the incident, official sources said the protests broke out in the area against the killing.

“As soon as the protests erupted, police and para-military forces deployed there intercepted the protesters triggering clashes,” sources said.

They said police used tear smoke shells to disperse the protestors who kept pelting stones on police station demanding persons involved in the killing should be handed over to them.

An official said that authorities called out the Army to assist the civil administration to maintain calm in the town. Officials said the curfew will remain in force till further orders.

He said seven persons were detained in connection with the case and authorities have appealed to people to maintain communal harmony.

Meanwhile, the Internet has been suspended in the entire district.
