Sindhudurg: Former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane's son Nilesh Rane has made shocking allegations against late Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray. In one of such sensational claims, Rane alleged that Balasaheb had hatched a plot to kill Bollywood's famous singer Sonu Nigam.

Rane also claimed that Balasaheb was responsible for Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe's death, reports ABP Majha. Dighe's death was made to resemble death during treatment in a hospital, claims Nilesh according to a report in the Loksatta. The same report also claims that Nilesh alleges two Shiv Sainiks were extremely upset over Dighe's fate and that Thackeray senior allegedly ordered that they are sent the same way.

Nilesh Rane was referring to a challenge that Shiv Sena's Vinayak Raut seems to have thrown at the Ranes while speaking at a Shiv Sena meet in Ratnagiri. Nilesh seems to be answering to Raut's jibe that the Shiv Sena members live by Bal Thackeray's teachings that imbibe loyalty to the bhagwa (saffron, also denoting Hinduism) and that no amount of money can sway their heartfelt reverence to the teachings of now deceased Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

"We have never said anything wrong about Balasaheb while in politics. But when somebody is making filthy allegations against my father, then I have to reveal to you something about Balasaheb too," said Nilesh Rane while hitting out at Shiv Sena.

"Balasaheb wanted to get Sonu Nigam killed. The attempt was made by Shiv Sainiks at the orders of Balasaheb. Do not force me to tell you what was the relationship between the Thackeray family and Sonu Nigam," alleged Nilesh Rane.

He added: "Who hatched the plot to murder Anand Dighe? I will tell all the things during public meetings. But do not force me to do this."

"Jayadev Thackeray revealed only the half-truth in the court. Do not force me to reveal what Jayadev Thackeray has said. If I tell the public about it, you can forget the Bal Thackeray memorial, even the clothes will not be left intact on the body of any of the Thackeray family members. People will not allow this monument to happen."

"We know our limitations. But Vinayak Raut has crossed the limits and that is why I have to speak. (My father) Narayan Rane's love for Balasaheb has not diminished even today. But he could never tell this thing," added Rane.

How are Nilesh Rane and Vinayak Raut connected?

Nilesh Rane is the son of a former Shiv Sena member Narayan Rane, who also served as a chief minister (briefly when Shiv Sena's Manohar Joshi stepped down in 1999), but was expelled by Uddhav Thackeray in 2005.

Since after the expulsion from the Sena, Narayan Rane was with the Congress party from 2005 to 2017. Nitesh Rane is Narayan Rane's other son and also Nilesh's brother. The Rane men (Narayan, Nilesh, Nitesh) are now the founder members of a party called Maharashtra Swabhimaan Paksh (2017).

Nilesh Rane was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha (Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency) on an INC (Congress) party ticket at the age of 28. But in the 16th Lok Sabha, he lost the seat to Shiv Sena's Vinayak Raut.

What exactly had Vinayak Raut said?

"Who killed those nine people in Narayan Rane's 10 years of political life? If you have the courage, Narayan Rane should answer it," Shiv Sena MP Vinayak Raut had said.

"Our allegiance is not to wealth, our allegiance is not towards selfishness. Even though nothing (monetary benefit) has been given to us, we still believe in the Shiv Sena. Our allegiance to the teachings of Balasaheb, we have not sold it for anything. He lives on in our hearts," added Raut while hitting out at Narayan Rane.
